On May 7th,
we went to Luynes, a very small city between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, to
attend an evening in the company of bands Death in June, :Of the Wand and the
Moon:, Die Weisse Rose and Joy of Life. Even though we were very much into the
music of Joy of Life as teenagers, we had never seen the band before. Well, in
fact, it was rather a new band featuring founding member Gary C. For this show,
he played with Miro Snejdr and completely reinterpreted the old songs of Joy of
Life, giving them a new life. It was a great emotion for us to listen back to these
melodies and atmospheres. As a post-punk/cold-wave band, Joy of Life developed
a very personal sound with Enjoy
(1985) and Hear the Children (1988)
and were part of the rare artists to be signed on the New European Recordings
label, run by Douglas Pearce, alongside In the Nursery, Fire + Ice or Somewhere
in Europe.
At the
beginning of the radio programme, we received our friends from Boudoir Moderne
for some concerts they will organize in an electronic/minimal/synthetic vein
during this month of June in Toulouse.
